Full Time Manager
Responsibilities
• Manage all staff and volunteers,
including interviewing and hiring; planning, assigning,
and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding
and disciplining employees and volunteers; addressing
complaints and resolving problems to ensure courteous,
friendly and efficient customer service.
• Direct the rapid expansion of the sales and
public persona of the store
• Develop and manage the shop's procedures in
compliance with established cash handling procedures,
accounting, and other requirements.
• Ensure that adequate inventory levels and
appealing visual merchandise displays are maintained
• Plan and manage organizational operating budget(s)
• Support the maintenance and growth of existing
customer base through monthly customer emails, store
signage, website management, media placements, and
other public relations efforts.
• Liaise with landlord and vendors as appropriate;
resolve property- or equipment- related concerns
• Report regularly on sales, staff, and other
trends to board of directors
• Tour the sales floor regularly; talk to colleagues
and customers; and, identify or resolve urgent issues.
• Maintain and grow existing customer base
• Create and implement an overarching marketing
strategy
• Attend regularly scheduled board and staff
meetings
• Maintain awareness of market trends in the
retail industry, and monitor what competitors are
doing.
• Serve as store and Fair Trade spokesperson
as required.
Qualifications
• Interest in and commitment to the values and
mission of Ten Thousand Villages
• A minimum of 2-4 years experience managing
a retail setting.
• High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management,
or related field preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively orally
and in written form with employees, board, volunteers,
customers, community partners, and others.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve
practical problems
• Excellent time-management and organizational
skills.
• Previous experience in marketing, advertising,
or public relations a plus.
• Experience recruiting and training staff and
volunteers a plus
• Previous work in Fair Trade a plus; foreign
language skills and/or travel a plus
Salary: $33, 000 / year plus $4,000
health and retirement stipend, 2-week paid vacation,
opportunity for annual bonuses and advancement. Some
weekend and evening work required.
